Carbs, carbs and more carbs!
Just left the grocery store. Spent quite awhile looking at syrups. A serving size is 1/4 cup. For most regular syrups, 1/4 cup equals between 52 and 58 grams of carbohydrates. Ladies, if you are to only have 45 grams of carbohydrates at a meal...and men, if you are to have 60 grams of carbohydrates...then you have just eaten your meal with that 1/4 cup of syrup!!! Looking around, I found that the lite syrups ran between 20 and 30 grams of carbs for 1/4 cup of syrup. The sugar free syrups were the best with 1/4 cup being 12 to 16 grams of carbohydrates. However, sometimes the sugar free products have something called sugar alcohol, ie. sorbitol, malitol, manitol, etc. and many times the sugar alcohol products can cause diarrhea. So beware. If that is a problem for you, then you might consider the lite products. Remember, carbohydrates digest into glucose or sugar in your body. Go easy on the carbs.
